As tensions rise between Iran and Israel, the Indian government has reached out to Iran for help in safely bringing back its stranded students and nationals. However, Iran has closed all its airspace due to ongoing military action, and the nation responded positively to India's request on Monday and assured India it would do whatever it could to aid their return.
'All Land Borders Are Open': Iran
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in an official note that it is ready to help diplomatic missions, students, and civilians who wish to return home. “Due to the closing of airports and the requests from many political missions to move their people safely, we have kept all land borders open for crossing,” the ministry explained in its statement.
To make sure the process is smooth and well-coordinated, Tehran has asked the Indian authorities to submit a list of evacuees. The details should include their names, passport numbers, vehicle details, intended travel time, and preferred border crossing points.
Efforts to Provide Safe Return to All
More than 1,500 Indian students — many from Jammu and Kashmir — are currently stranded in Iran in cities like Tehran, Qom, and Shiraz. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in Delhi said it is making all efforts to keep them safe and bring them back home. Some students have already been relocated to safer locations within Iran while preparations for their return are underway.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran is closely monitoring the situation and staying in touch with stranded students. It has opened a helpline and a Telegram group to keep everyone informed and updated about the latest updates.
