The National Investigation Agency achieved a significant breakthrough in the Pahalgam terror attack case, arresting two locals for sheltering Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists. The April 22 attack, which killed 26 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley, shocked the nation. The Arrests and Their Role
The NIA apprehended Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote and Bashir Ahmad Jothar from Hill Park, both Pahalgam residents. During questioning, the duo disclosed the attackers’ identities, confirming their affiliation with the banned terror outfit. The NIA has charged them under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, for aiding the gruesome assault.
Details of the Attack
Armed with M4 carbines and AK-47s, the terrorists struck the scenic valley, leaving 16 others injured. The NIA’s probe, under case RC-02/2025/NIA/JMU, points to a calculated plot with cross-border links, with evidence suggesting Pakistan’s involvement through LeT’s proxy, The Resistance Front (TRF).
Ongoing Investigation
The NIA continues to hunt for the three terrorists, identified as Pakistani nationals, with sketches released and a 20 lakh reward offered. A local LeT recruit, Adil Hussain Thoker, is also suspected to be involved. The agency is analyzing forensic evidence, including a photographer’s video, to reconstruct the attack and trace additional aides.
