National News: Just 48 hours ahead of Independence Day, Indian security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of North Kashmir. The operation, however, came at a cost, as one soldier laid down his life in the line of duty. One terrorist was also neutralized during the encounter.
According to defense officials, the incident occurred on Wednesday in the Churunda area of Uri, located in the Baramulla district. The troops, already on heightened alert due to increased cross-border activity, engaged the infiltrators in a brief but intense exchange of fire. The swift response of the soldiers prevented the terrorists from crossing into Indian territory.
Heightened Vigilance Along the LoC
Security forces have been maintaining a state of heightened vigilance amid intelligence reports warning of possible infiltration attempts in the run-up to Independence Day. This latest incident comes a day after Inspector General of the Border Security Force (BSF), Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, sounded an alert regarding Pakistan’s persistent efforts to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday in Bandipora—after flagging off a 79-kilometer cycling rally to mark the Independence Day celebrations—IG Yadav revealed that terrorist activities on the launching pads across the LoC in North Kashmir have been on the rise. He stressed that despite repeated attempts, all infiltration bids have so far been foiled through the joint efforts of the BSF, the Army, and other security agencies.
Joint Strategy to Counter Pakistan’s Moves
Highlighting the coordination between forces, Yadav said, “We work in close collaboration with the Army and conduct regular joint operations to prevent infiltration. Every attempt by the adversary to breach our borders is met with a strong and coordinated response.”
He further reiterated that Pakistan continues to provide logistical and operational support to terrorists across the border, but India’s security grid remains fully prepared to neutralize such threats. The martyrdom of the soldier in Uri underscores both the vigilance of the forces and the persistent challenges posed by cross-border terrorism in the region. Additional reinforcements have reportedly been deployed along vulnerable stretches of the LoC to ensure a secure Independence Day across Jammu and Kashmir.
