BMW R 1300 RS shown off before it goes on sale in India

Published: May 08, 2025

The BMW R 1300 RS is the brand-new iteration of the company's sports tourer, which was just introduced. This model is essentially a faired version of the R 1300 R that was launched earlier, and it shares many of the key components that were included in that model. It utilizes the same boxer engine that is featured in the R 1300 GS as its power source.

  • The boxer engine used in the BMW R 1300 RS is identical to that found in the R 1300 GS.
  • Runs on wheels that are 17 inches in diameter and weigh 1.4 kg less.
  • Compared to the R 1300 GS, the R 1300 RS weighs 8 kilograms more than the R 1300 GS.

Is the BMW R 1300 RS announced in advance of its introduction in India

The R 1300 RS, a sport tourer that will take the place of the R 1250 RS in BMW's range, has been introduced by the company. With the intention of simplifying its place within the brand's portfolio, the R 1300 RS performs a function that is comparable to that of the Ninja 1100SX, which is part of Kawasaki's lineup. It makes use of the same boxer engine that is featured in the R 1300 GS, which is 1,300cc. Similarly, this mill generates 145 horsepower at 7,750 revolutions per minute and 149 Newton-meters of torque at 6,500 revolutions per minute. The typical configuration for this horizontally opposed engine is a 6-speed transmission that comes equipped with a quickshifter that can shift in either direction.

What is the amount of spring rate that can be adjusted in the USD fork of the world's second series production bike?

However, the rear subframe of this engine is borrowed from the R 1300 R. This engine is housed within the same main-frame as the R 1300 GS. This frame is supported by a USD fork and a paralever EVO unit, both of which are equipped with preload and damping adjustment adjustments as standard. With its USD fork, the R 1300 RS is the second series production bike after the R 1300 R to include an adjustable spring rate. This makes it the second bike in the series to feature this feature. The electronic suspension system is an item that may be purchased separately.

At the front, there are two discs that are paired with radially mounted four-piston callipers, while at the back, there is just one disc that is responsible for the braking. New cast aluminum wheels lower the unsprung weight of the R 1300 RS by 1.4 kg, despite the fact that both ends of the vehicle are equipped with 17-inch wheels. A rider's perch that is 790 millimeters in height may be elevated to a maximum of 815 millimeters.

The gasoline tank of the R 1300 RS is identical to the one on the R 1300 R, at 17 liters. On the other hand, it weighs 245 kilograms, which is 6 kilograms more than its roadster sister and 8 kilograms more than the R 1300 in comparison.

Does it come with active cruise control and a warning in advance of a collision?

With the BMW R 1300 RS, you can take advantage of a complete collection of electronic rider aids, such as traction control, engine braking control, active cruise control with front collision warning, and three riding modes that come standard: Eco, Rain, and Road. The Riding Package Pro, which is an optional upgrade, grants access to extra Dynamic and Dynamic Pro modes. The R 1300 RS is offered in four different varieties, each of which comes with a unique set of color options: the Basic version, the Triple Black version, the Performance version, and the Option 719 Cuyamaca mode.

We anticipate that BMW will introduce the R 1300 RS in India over the next few months. This model will be positioned between the R 1300 R (whenever it is released) and the R 1300 GS (which costs Rs 21.20 lakh on the market).
