Trumps Ban Halts Harvard Dreams Foreign Students Face SixMonth Wait

Published: Jun 06, 2025

International News: Harvard University has been a dream for talented students from all over the world—a platform where ideas, research, and innovation meet. But the latest decision taken in the US under the leadership of Donald Trump seems to temporarily halt this dream. The Trump administration has imposed a six-month ban on the entry of foreign students into the US, especially those who wanted to go to Harvard University or through exchange programs.

Research institutions are gasping for breath

This is not just limited to students. The Trump government has now stopped the $2.2 billion fund to Harvard and is preparing to end a federal agreement of $100 million. Apart from this, a massive cut of 40-55% has been proposed in the budget of NASA, the National Science Foundation, and other leading scientific institutions. The result of this has been that many universities have not only stopped new appointments but have also stopped the admission of research scholars.

Other countries are ready to draw talent from America

This decision of America has given rise to a new "talent war" at the global level. Canada has invited American scientists under the 'Canada Leads' campaign, while French universities have started programs like 'Safe Place for Science.' Germany's Max Planck Society has received three times more applications this year than the US. Australia and Britain are also offering attractive salaries and migration packages to attract scientists.

India's indifference is a matter of concern

While other countries are looking for opportunities from the US decision, India's scientific community is almost silent on it. There has been no world-class discovery in the field of science and technology in India for a long time. Except for the defense and space sector, the remaining scientific institutions seem to be inactive. If the American research ecosystem weakens, it will also affect Indian research because India is still largely dependent on US-based networks and collaborations.

Locks on dreams and guards on hopes

This move by Trump is not just an administrative decision; it is an indication that global leadership is now getting confined to boundaries. The dream of going to Harvard is not just a desire to get a seat; it is a vision—to think, discover, and change. Now the knock on the closed door has started being heard in that vision. And the biggest loss is that the world's biggest country of dreams has now started looking at dreams with suspicion.
