Bangalore Stampede RCBs Celebration Turns Into Criminal Case

Published: Jun 05, 2025

Sports News: The stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) IPL victory has shaken the entire country. Eleven people lost their lives in this accident, and more than 47 were injured. An FIR has now been registered in this case at Cubbon Park Police Station. The FIR names RCB management as the first accused, event management company DNA as the second accused, and officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) as the third accused.

Section 105 – This section applies when a person dies due to negligence or an unintentional act, but it does not fall under the category of murder. In this case, the organizers are accused of causing the stampede through their negligence, which resulted in the deaths of eleven people.

Section 115 – This section is applied when a person intentionally causes harm to someone. In this accident, several people were injured due to poor crowd management, which led to the inclusion of this section.

Section 118 – This section is invoked when someone is seriously injured through dangerous methods or means. The chaos caused during the stampede is being addressed under this section.

From UDR to FIR: Public Anger Forces Swift Action

The report highlighted how poor crowd control, the distribution of free passes, and limited seating arrangements led to the tragedy. Initially, the police had registered a case of unnatural death (UDR), but following massive public outrage and political pressure, an FIR was lodged against RCB, DNA, and KSCA within 24 hours.

What happened on the day of the accident?

On June 3, RCB won its first-ever IPL trophy by defeating Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad. The following day, a victory parade was organized in Bengaluru. Lakhs of fans gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium to catch a glimpse of their favorite players, but the organizers failed to manage the crowd properly, resulting in the tragic incident.

Allegations and action

he FIR accuses the RCB management, DNA event company, and KSCA of criminal negligence. The Karnataka High Court has also taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and sought a response from the state government. RCB has announced a financial assistance of 10 lakh each for the families of the deceased, while the government has promised free medical treatment for the injured.
